Forgive So You Can Be Free

I didn’t write any of the following. I’m not that gifted. But this sister is. Her name is Teresa McMillan. Look her up and follow her on Facebook. The rest of this post is hers:

They say ‘don’t get bitter…get better’…I’m working on switchin’ them letters ~Lecrae

It’s so easy to get bitter.

To not forgive.

To be a victim.I can see victims from a mile away. I know when my mind tempts me to go there. A victim mentality can not let go of “what they did to me.”

A victim mentality says “the world happens to me.”

I have no control.

A self sufficient mentality says “take a look at yourself and make a change.” I have control but it’s up to me.

I don’t have enough boot straps for that.

Been there, done that. Didn’t work.

Jesus says…I can change you.

I have control and it’s up to Him to make a change.

He makes us new.

He forgives us so we can forgive others.

And live in our freedom.

Free people pursue.

Free people forgive.

Free people turn cheeks.

When you know you are free…that means you know you were in chains yourself.

To know freedom, you had to know slavery.

In the words of an ex-prostitute who was sold by her mother (twice) & when coming to faith in Christ forgave her mom saying “How could I not forgive her when Jesus forgave me of so much?”

Good question.

I like to call that “keeping your testimony close to your own face”….lest you forget.

Free people says “I happen to the world.”

Not the world happens to me.

Jesus invites us to freedom.

But we have a choice.

Freedom is never forced.

You are free to stay in the prison of your soul and wait for people to come visit you behind bars.

Or you can step outside of that already unlocked-by-the-blood-of-Jesus jail cell and run out and tell others.

So who do you have to forgive?

If someone popped up as you read this….release them.

Your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health depend on it.

Bitter or better.

It’s up to you. Not anyone else.

Free people know they have choices.

If you don’t forgive others, your Father in heaven will not forgive you. ~Jesus

Work on switchin’ them letters in Jesus’ name.
